ABOUT:
In June 2020, some proposals were presented to better adapt RHU to local climatic conditions, as well as to extend the life span of the RHU. Among the proposals, those considered to be the most adjusted to the needs of the Northern region of Brazil, and especially Roraima, where the first studies are being carried out.
With the focus on Roraima, Brazil's border with Venezuela, there were some important points that made us expand a study that was being carried out, and look not just at the increase of the RHU's survival. As a result, in June we presented the following proposals:
• Suggestion of climatic adaptation of RHU with expansion of openings through the installation of new hatches and windows, following the standards already used by the IKEA model and adaptations previously suggested by the UNHCR Brazil team. In this case, it was analyzed the expansion natural ventilation and improve environmental conditions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
• Installation of internal lining to reduce the room temperature.
• Raising the floor of the RHU for greater hygiene, reducing the problems of flooding and loss of belongings of the sheltered families.
• Sanitary systems to improve conditions in shelters and fields, with options for individual cells, shared between some families and collectives.

PROJECT AT EMAU-DAU PUC-Rio
ACHITECTS: TATIANA TERRY, FERNANDO ESPÓSITO
TEAM: CARLA FELIX,BIANCA NAYLOR, BRUNA NÉLIO, ELIZABETH COIMBRA, SERGIO FELIPE ABREU, JOANA MARTINS, JOSÉ LUIZ F.
ABOUT: The Sankofa Museum of Memory and History of Rocinha, active since 2006, has an important role in the cultural field of Rocinha, but never had a headquarters or a physical space for the exhibitions. This changed with the opportunity to occupy a slab in The Ecological Park of Rocinha offered by the Pacifying Police Unit. However, to accomplish, it is necessary to build a roof. This prompted a partnership with EMAU, the training office of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (DAU/PUC-Rio), that engaged in technical assistance for the development of a participatory project involving students, faculty and residents of Rocinha.
